Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, has strengthened its international academic and diplomatic ties following a high-level strategic visit to the United States Consulate General in Lagos. The visit, which is part of ongoing move to accelerate the university’s globalisation agenda, is expected to open new pathways for research collaboration, faculty exchange, and student opportunities. The University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, who led the delegation, emphasised that the engagement aligns with the institution’s long-term vision of global relevance and academic excellence. “This visit is a deliberate intentional and strategic step towards deepening Caleb University’s international partnerships, enhancing research opportunities, and positioning our institution within the global knowledge ecosystem,” he stated.   The strategic dialogue, which brought together top officials of both institutions, focused on revitalising existing collaborations and exploring new academic frontiers. Central to the discussions was the renewal of Caleb University’s partnership with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and advancing ongoing engagements with Pennsylvania State University, signalling a push towards transatlantic academic cooperation. The U.S. Consulate team, led by the Public Affairs Officer, Julie Mackay, unveiled a suite of high-impact opportunities for the Caleb community. These include access to the prestigious Fulbright Program, which offers approximately 400 scholarships annually, with dedicated slots for Nigerian scholars, as well as the Fulbright Specialist initiative designed to support curriculum development, research, and academic conferences.   Other opportunities mentioned during the meeting include structured grant acquisition training through EducationUSA, digital learning resources via the e-Library USA platform, and proposed lecture series on emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence for academic research. The Consulate also extended invitations to Caleb University to participate in major upcoming engagements, including the United States’ 250th independence anniversary celebrations and international sports development programmes. The parties also explored the establishment of an American Space at Caleb University, a move that would position the institution as a hub for digital knowledge exchange, innovation, and cultural diplomacy within Nigeria’s private university sector.   The visiting team further received insights into emerging U.S.-backed technology hubs in Lagos, particularly in Ikeja and Lekki, opening prospects for collaboration in agriculture, digital innovation, and tech-driven research partnerships involving global firms such as Meta and Google. The meeting ended with clearly defined strategic action points, including campus-wide grant training, formal requests for Fulbright Specialists, expanded digital literacy programmes, and plans to secure high-profile U.S. keynote speakers for Caleb University’s 2026 International Conference.
